Programming Note: This was such a fun trip, and one of my first work-based travels to go and speak at a conference - something I’d do a lot more of over the next 8 years. I was met by one of the organizers from the airport, and we went for a local Texan breakfast at a small roadhouse diner after I’d landed, which I still remember. The hotel was an incredible luxury resort in the hills around Austin, with amazing views across a misty golf course to wake up to in the morning.
I spent the afternoon and evening wandering around 6th street, taking in a baseball game at a bar, just hanging out, eating barbecue and shopping for the weird and exotic on one of Austin’s most interesting streets. This was also at the height of my Gowalla fandom, and I remember walking by their office to check it out and hang out outside.
The talk itself was a fairly simple one, just a download of everything we were doing at Corcoran online at the time. Some of the old screenshots from these simpler times are fun to look back on.
